General Information

Department Introduction

Founded on 9 December 2015, the Department of Marine Engineering continues its activities within the Faculty of Maritime Studies. Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Faculty of Maritime Studies, Department of Marine Engineering has been admitting students since 2022. For 2023, 40 students will be admitted according to the YKS quota. Education is carried out in uniform. Marine Engineering is a department that can be preferred with numerical score like other engineering departments. Students have the opportunity to be employed both on land and at sea with maritime education as well as engineering education within 4 years of education.

Following 4 years of undergraduate education in the Department of Marine Engineering, graduates receive Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Faculty of Maritime Studies Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering. According to the Seafarers Regulation, those who are successful in the driving license exam conducted by the Seafarers Examination Centre are entitled to receive the Farewell Watchkeeping Engineering license. They start to work as Fareward Watchkeeping Engineer (3rd Engineer) on Turkish flagged and foreign flagged ships. At the end of the service period determined by the Administration, they are awarded the license of 2nd Engineer and then Chief Engineer by examination.

Department Aims and Objectives

The aim of the Department of Marine Engineering is to provide the education required for the qualification of long distance watchkeeping engineer in accordance with STCW 2010 and to educate students who have critical analytical thinking, teamwork skills, social responsibility, open to lifelong learning, with engineering education as well as maritime education.

Vision

To train Marine Machinery Operating Engineers who can keep up with technological developments, produce environmentally friendly, safe and ethical solutions to marine machinery operating engineering problems and operate effectively in many areas of the maritime sector.

Mission

To train competent professional engineers with the necessary theoretical and practical qualifications that meet the needs of the international maritime sector and to produce engineering solutions to the problems of the maritime sector as a research unit.
